My name is Leyla F. Karaha. I'm originally from Tanzania but I have been living in Dublin for the past 22yrs. I'm working on a microfinance fintech social enterprise idea; in which phase 1 will be to create a financial literacy online tool.
During this journey, I realised that it can be very lonely so I started organising Social Entrepreneurship Networking events since last October. I'm now working on my first online networking event on the theme of Mental Health. If anyone is interested in taking part, please reach out to me on socialentrepreneursevents@gmail.com
I'm Ollie Murphy. I work for Trustus we care CLG in Tallaght. I am exploring the viability of operating our charity as a (not for private profit) business, given the scale of our operations and the changing mood of successive governments' approach to funding the community sector. I have a varied career that includes farming, librarian, metal engineering, project management, accountancy and acupuncture. I believe the business model I am proposing will work and allow the charity to strengthen over the balance of this decade.
Hi everyone, Nice to meet you all. Dermot McCarthy here. In Feb 2018, I founded my therapy practice Inner Voice. I was an accountant for over two years previously. In March 2019, founded a therapy centre based in 5 Capel Street named Under The Rainbow with two others. My colleague Gillan Fagn is on this course also. Looking to make contact with other Social Entrepreneurs out there. Would like to learn how to establish Under The Rainbow as a Social Enterprise, supporting the local Dublin City Centre community and beyond, and to ascertain what Financial Supports are available for Social Enterprise start ups like Under The Rainbow.
Hello y name is Andreia. I am in the inception stages and hoping to learn how to better take YOMUM idea off the ground - A mobile centre distributing women's sanitary, breast feeding care packs to refugee camps, women's shelters and natural disaster relief victims. I intend to design a program that will include a dialogue with existing women organisations worlwide and source out funding and product via SCR channels within global brands.
Hi, Michele O'Sullivan here. In 2002 I co-founded a social enterprise in school age childcare, working with the school partners in Our Lady's Grove, Goatstown. The business has been successful and is still thriving, having expanded into pre-school care and education in 2010. I've moved into lecturing since then, but still feel that another version of an SE model might be useful to scale this model up for other schools. I'm also planning research on the social impact of SEs. I look forward to working with you all.
My name is Charles and I currently work with Refill Ireland. Refill Ireland is a social enterprise with the aim of eliminating single-use plastic water bottles. Our main activity (up until recently) has been providing water for events, giving a zero waste option rather than buying water bottles in bulk. I have volunteered with the project for over 2 years and have recently joined Refill full-time. I look forward to meeting everyone.
After participating in Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Academy West 2018, I founded Life Connections CLG. It is a micro social enterprise with a vision for an Ireland where adults and young people are comfortable discussing healthy relationships, sexuality and intimacy in the digital age. The hosting of these open healthy conversations takes place through face to face workshops, talks and through online platforms. I am based in Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary but Life Connections has a national reach.
I am also a National Parents Council trainer and in recent years I have worked as a Domestic Abuse support worker and as a Family Support Worker in North Tipperary.
I also has a creative background having produced shows and tours for Your Mans Puppets during the mid 2000's and I am a 5Rhythms movement meditation teacher since 2007. In addition, I enjoy being a mother, gardening, singing and I am resident in Cloughjordan in North Tipperary
I am excited to begin this course with the Edge and to find innovative ways of looking at Life Connections over the coming weeks. See you all online on Tuesday morning.
Hello I'm Alan and coming from a for-profit and non-profit charity context looking at supporting social entrepreneurs with a new social investment fund. Starting in city-centre venue Tue 24th and looking forward
e Hi everyone, my name is Roisin and I worked to set up the D12 Bike Bus. We cycle kids to school in a convoy each Wednesday and Friday morning https://d12bikebus.wixsite.com/d12bikebus We want to upscale it to increase it's impact - I think a social enterprise approach might be the way. I am also a self-employed contractor in the not for profit sector, advising organisations on how to grow their income streams. So learning about social enterprise design will be of interest from that perspective also.
I'm looking forward to starting the Tallaght programme on Wednesday so see you then!
Bethany from Kerry here. Having worked for the past 8 years in the NGO sector in a Case Manager role with with refugees and asylum seekers, this month I am starting a new role as Social Enterprise Manager with KASI- the Killarney Immigrant Support Centre. I am really interested in learning about ways to scale up the existing project which currently hires and trains migrants (of varying immigration statuses) to become cooks in our catering enterprise which provide nutritious hot meals in 4 local national schools. I would also like to pursue other social enterprise ideas that focus on asylum seeker empowerment and integration through employment. I look forward to meeting you all!
I am the director of Individual Development with JCI which is a NFC which develops young leaders to have a sustainable impact on community.
I am a therapist in private practice, AcoraTherapy since 2017.
I also founded Under The Rainbow which I just launched last July, I should have set it up as a social enterprise but I'm learning as I go.
I provide accessible psychotherapy, coaching and counselling to minority and diverse groups and also give community talks, training, workshops on mental health and diversity issues.
I'm looking forward to connecting with like minded people, expanding my network with people who have similar values and learning how to develop myself as a social Entrepreneur.
Hello, Im Andrew from Derrybawn in Wicklow.Derrybawn is an eco-social enterprise, coworking, coliving, digging and dreaming space in the middle of the National Park at Glendalough.Im a project development and resource mobiliser to design and deliver large scale environmental projects which provide impact wherever they are. These projects include climate action, sewage, and sanitation in refugee camps, as well as biodiversity and nature projects in national parks and mountain regions.
Looking forward to growing my network, experiences, and knowledge for the Irish context after many years abroad,
Hey Andrew, I'd love to find out more about your project. Do you have a website or other links to share? Lucky you isolating in the heart of the Wicklow hills!
Hi. I'm Adrian Geissel and I'm founder with SURPASSPORT, the player-centred team management App that's helps coaches know more about their players, especially when they play on multiple teams. The journey that's brought us to today included winning Best Startup in South Dublin County, but our business model is really social. Time to put that on a formal footing, for all the right reasons. Looking forward to joining the group.
One small ask - we've commissioned an in-depth research study with GMIT and ask parents who's kids are involved in sport to contribute their opinion on https://sur.ie/7ySJyA - should take less than 5 minutes. Thank you.
I'd like to edit my post because my situation changed just before the course! I'm very happy to be collaborating with Mary Boissel from 'Getting There'. In Mary's words, she set up her enterprise to bring experienced, capable and retired people and businesses together for part time temporary jobs. Getting There provides the introduction/handshake. https://www.gettingthere.ie/Getting There works on many levels and has many strands.
Getting temporary, part time paid jobs for retired people
Providing information
Encouraging a barter system of goods and services. e.g. A mentor to a Start up Vs 3 prepared lunches, gutter cleaning vs repairs etc
Information. It is hard to get relevant information in Ireland. For a country of chatters, we communicate poorly.
Influencing policy. Ireland’s population is ageing. Many organisations/Government departments want us to be twinkly grandparents, easily exploited, easily pushed aside. However, we still have plenty to contribute to making this country more equitable. One of the reasons I want to help Mary is that I myself (and lots of other people) need to start having conversations around this exciting time of our lives. Let's lose the fear and start making some positive plans. And let's value older members of the community who still have lots to contribute. We welcome help from others in the group and want to do the same in return! Happy holiday weekend all...
Hi Leyla. Yes very interested in being part of this online event. Will be in contact.
